The Icons & Stripes cushion gathers a set of folk motifs: rabbit, fox, a female figure, rose, tulip, dragon, tree, and goose. The original inspiration was found stitched into the seat of an antique chair in a Norwegian mountain cabin. Historic symbols were often used and carry meanings documented in Norwegian folk art history. The tree of life represented the passage between earth and the heavens, often marking the shift from single life into marriage. The dragon stood for protection and strength. The female figure is consistent with the disir, guardian spirits from Norse folklore linked to women and key life transitions. The rose, related to the traditional eight-pointed Selburose pattern, stood for prosperity and good fortune.

Woven with a textured surface, the cushion brings these motifs into beige and rust.
